BOB LATHAM, Dallas TX, played rugby at Stanford University and has been inducted into the U.S. Rugby Hall of Fame. Bob served two terms as the Chairman of USA Rugby and is the first American to ever serve on the Executive Board of World Rugby. Bob also served a term on the Board of Directors of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee and has published a book entitled Winners & Losers: Rants, Riffs and Reflections on the World of Sports. Bob is Chairman of the Board of ARTICLE 19, an NGO based in London that promotes freedom of expression around the world.
LEW LECLAIR, Dallas TX, has had some special moments, but his absolute favorite is the jury that had a question: “Can we have a calculator?” During the massive Enron consolidated MDL litigation, Lew had deposed several witnesses in an auditorium with tiered seating and more than 200 lawyers in attendance. Lew’s spouse has volunteered for multiple non-profits working in schools and orphanages in Ethiopia, which led to sponsor- ing a refugee family from Ethiopia that eventually moved to Dallas. That also led to one of their children spending two years in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia. A few years ago, Lew entered the annual Seniors’ tour- nament at the World Series of Poker and finished seventh out of 4200 players.
BRENDAN LUPETIN, Pittsburgh PA, was the Pennsylvania State Swimming Champion and record holder in the 100-yard freestyle and went to a Division I college on a swimming scholarship.
DONALD W. MACLEOD, K.C., Calgary AB, was able to finance law school working at a British Columbia Forest Service Marine District Ranger Station. Don once represented an NHL streaker who climbed over the glass to reach the ice during a game at which roughly 18,000 people were in attendance, who then slipped, fell and knocked himself out on the playing surface, becoming one of Sports Illustrated’s top photos for the year.
JEFF MANDO, Covington KY, served twelve years on the Kentucky Board of Education and, for the last fourteen years, as Counsel for the Kentucky Judicial Conduct Commission where he prosecutes disciplinary charges against judges for viola- tions of the Judicial Canons, making him popular at cocktail parties attended by judges.
KIRK MATHIS, Lufkin TX, grew up in a rodeo family. His dad was a professional rodeo announcer; he has a son competing on his college rodeo team and another son competing in high school rodeo. Most of Kirk’s time outside the practice of law is spent in youth rodeo, so it appears that both in work and leisure he deals in bullcrap.
STEPHEN J. MAY, K.C., St. John’s NL, is celebrated for the fermentation of a scarce supply of golden raspberries, found on his summer home property, into small quantities of an ambrosia, which some profess to have aphrodisiac qualities. Stephen was a recipient of the Lee Samis Award of Excellence, for his contributions to the growth and development of the legal profession in Canada and his long-term dedication as a mentor to law students and young lawyers.
