RYAN BREEDON, Barrie ON, posted a home video on YouTube in 2010 in which he cast his children as Batman and the Tooth Fairy; the video has 52 million hits [52 million and 1 now]. His children are likely still in therapy or the witness protection program or both.
KIM BUENO, Austin TX, served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Baltic States and is an Ultramarathon runner who com- petes in long-distance events in the U.S. and around the world.
[OK, that’s what Kim wrote about herself. Knowing that “ultramarathon” is a less than precise term – it can be an thing between 30 and 3100 miles – we looked her up. Kim has officially competed in more than seventy-five ultras, including her first-place finish in the 364 mile Twelve Days of Yeti race. Kim is, apparently, as modest as she is good . . . ]
CHERYL MEYERS BUTH, Orchard Park NY, is a certified agent with the NBA and has represented politicians, sports figures, celebrities, the national president of a biker gang, a General in the Bloods, and a bevy of alleged murderers. At the same time she is counsel to the Correctional Officers’ union and has represented state and local police officers on a variety of civil and criminal matters.
MARK A. CAMELI, Milwaukee WI, is the grandson of sharecropper immigrants from Italy. Mark was not focused on going to college until the father of a friend, a prominent attorney at a large Chicago law firm who had a similar background, encouraged Mark to try law school. Thanks to that mentoring, Mark worked as a state and federal prosecutor before entering private practice over twenty-five years ago. True to his Italian roots, Mark is a former president of the board of Milwaukee’s Florentine Opera Company.
MELANIE CARPENTER, Sioux Falls SD, was a college gymnast at Iowa State University. She coached a recreational league girls’ softball team for over ten years and judged high school gymnastics for over fifteen years.
Melanie’s father, Ed, is a Fellow; her husband and father-in-law are attorneys and her son and daughter are both planning to become attorneys. [We hope she has friends outside of the law to maintain her life balance.]
MONIQUE A. CARTER, San Diego CA, is a deputy public defender with the San Diego County Public Defender’s Office, where she has worked since 2005. She also serves as a trial skills instructor for NITA and an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law.
VICKI CHOU, Los Angeles CA, spent eight years as an Assistant United States Attorney; in private practice, she concentrates on high stakes white-collar defense. Last year she managed three children under six while trying a three-months long case. Vicki is a founding Board Member of the Social Justice Legal Foundation, formed in the wake of the George Floyd murder.
