Arizona Water Management
 Brenda Burman attended Kenyon College where she played college field hockey. She was a park ranger at the Grand Can- yon and then attended law school at the University of Arizona. After law school, she clerked at the Wyoming Supreme Court. Between 2017 and 2021, she served as the first woman to lead the United States Bureau of Reclamation as Commissioner.
Brenda is currently the General Manager of the Central Arizona Project (CAP), where she is committed to finding collaborative solutions to secure reliable water supplies for communities, farms, tribes, and the environment. CAP was formed to ensure that Arizona’s water supply is secure, stable, and renewable.
Tom Buschatzke received his B.S. in geology from the State University of New York. He began his career as a hydrologist
and currently is the Director of the Arizona Department of Water Resources, responsible for multiple planning, policy, regulatory and permitting programs for the management of the state’s water supplies. He is the principal negotiator on issues relating to the Colorado River and is chairman of the Arizona Water Banking Authority. Tom has been named an
Arizonan of the Year multiple times by the state’s newspaper.
Amazingly, Arizona’s population has grown more than five times since the 1950’s yet uses less water now.
At the Spring Meeting in Phoenix, Brenda and Tom dis- cussed statewide water management issues and how the state will address sustainable water resources management into the future.
