Of course, Deron’s buddies enjoyed the story greatly. But Gord proudly notes that since that outing, Deron has himself won two Lawyer of the Year Awards.
Gord was inducted as a Fellow in 1994. He has held various leadership roles in the Manitoba/Saskatchewan Province Com- mittee and was involved with the creation of the Canadian Foundation of the Amer- ican College of Trial Lawyers. Gord often reminds other Fellows that if they would commit one billable hour of dollar value to the Canadian Foundation, the Foundation would be strong.
It has been a great pleasure to get to know Gord and the Saskatchewan Fellows. Justice Barclay said it best. “Gord wore his barris- ter’s robes with dignity, integrity and com- passion and has contributed so much to the administration of justice in our Province.”

In his 20’s and 30’s, Gord was a very active fast pitch softball player in Regina, playing for the Redhead Equipment team. He regularly led the league with his batting average. Deron served as bat boy. More recently, Gord’s sport is golf. For years, Gord and his friends would take a week- long golf trip to Phoenix. One trip, one evening, Gord talked about an upcoming trial. One of his friends asked Gord about his opposing counsel
– what do you think, Gord, your adversary thinks of you? At ease with his good friends (and perhaps a bit of wine was involved), Gord said “Oh, I am feared.” Gord incorrectly assumed his friends would not think much or remember his off-hand comment. But from then on, at every future event, Gord’s friends refer to him as “F.O.” (the Feared One).
Justice Ronald Barclay tells the story about a time that Gord’s usual golf partners were not available, so Deron invited Gord to play with Deron and his friends. Early in the round, Gord asked Deron’s friends if they knew that they were in the presence of two Kuski lawyers who had be- tween them won three (3) Litigator of the Year Awards? After a bit of silence, Gord responded Deron has won none while Gord had won three.
